Dr. Sharen Cummins Honored for Excellence in Scientific Research
ASPENDALE, AUSTRALIA, March 27, 2015, Dr. Sharen Cummins, Senior Research Scientist of Digital Productivity at CSIRO, has been recognized by Worldwide Branding for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in her profession.
Possessing 15 years of industry experience, Dr. Cummins has diversified expertise in applied mathematics, mathematical modeling, numerical modeling and simulation, fluid dynamics, granular flows, scientific computing, and computational physics. Her duties in her current role of seven years are mathematical modeling and software development applied to industrial, biomechanical and environmental problems.
In the future, Dr. Cummins would like to further her business development and engagement skills in order to promote the value of computational modeling for government and industry. She has been successful because of her passion for using computers to understand and predict complex physical phenomena and her ability to collaborate successfully in multi-disciplinary teams.
Dr. Cummins became involved in her profession as a result of her enjoyment of science and mathematics and how they can be applied to solve real-world problems. As computers have become increasingly efficient, she recognized the power of combining computers and mathematics to create tools for prediction, optimization and insight. The development of a numerical algorithm that can be used to model significant wear, erosion in complex manufacturing processes. She would like to apply this algorithm in other industrial, biomechanical and environmental applications.
Complementing Dr. Cummin’s professional experience is her impressive education. She earned a post-doctorate in numerical algorithm development for granular flows at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2001 to add to a Ph.D. in applied mathematics from Monash University in 2000. She also holds two bachelor’s degrees, one in civil engineering (1995) and another in science (1994), both from Monash University and with first-class honors.
