Ms. Morris volunteers with GFWC, a powerful force in the advancement of communities

WASHINGTON, June 25, 2015, Karen H. Morris, Volunteer on the Board of Directors of the General Federation of Womens Clubs has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in nonprofit social services.

Ms. Morris continues to demonstrate unyielding support for community advancement through her service on the Board of Directors for the General Federation of Womens Clubs. For more than a decade, Ms. Morris has volunteered on the board of the organization, conducting seminars, fundraising, and serving as the New York State chapter president from 2002 to 2004. Driven by hard work and her desire to help others, Ms. Morris was captivated by the GFWC’s mission to incite change through volunteer service.

Based in Washington, D.C., the General Federation of Womens Clubs is a nonprofit organization that works both locally and nationally to enhance the lives of others. The organization has been in operation since 1890, however, its true origins can be traced back even further to New York in 1868. When journalist Jane Cunningham Croly was denied attendance to an event held at an all-male press club because of her gender, she promptly established a club exclusively for women in retaliation. On the 21st anniversary of the club in 1889, Jane Croly invited womens’ clubs across the United States to attend a convention in New York. It was there that 63 clubs took action to form the General Federation of Womens Clubs.

Today, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs provides community services, including support of the arts, preservation of natural resources, advancement of education, scholarships, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and encouragement of civic involvement. Through their exceptional volunteer work, the GFWC has garnered a reputation as an unwavering pillar in the fight against domestic violence, and has been recognized for their achievements on the floor of the U.S. Senate by former Senator Joseph Biden. In April of 2015, the GFWC celebrated 125 years of positive community service.

Throughout her 55-year-long career, Ms. Morris is most proud of her continuing role with this inspiring organization. In addition to becoming a member of Worldwide Branding, Ms. Morris maintains affiliation with Beta Sigma Phi International. Looking to the future, she hopes to experience continued professional growth with the General Federation of Womens Clubs.
