Mary C. Burch Honored for Expertise in Electrical Engineering

Ms. Burch’s love of programming, troubleshooting and team involvement led her to where she is today

Ms. Burch was the third oldest of 10 siblings raised on a farm in Auburn, Michigan, by Ila and Joseph Corrion. Initially, she worked as a food service professional, eventually went on to work as a production worker for a small automotive factory. It seemed as if she had received her calling, because she was able to help so many others in the factory. She was asked, however, why she did not go into engineering, thereby making the factory’s processes simpler.

Pondering this new career option, Ms. Burch attended Delta College to better her family and herself, after her youngest was 5 years old. While at Delta, she received numerous awards for being Tutor of the Year and numerous scholarships. She also graduated with high honors and went on to SVSU to obtain a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. While attending school and working 20-25 hours a week, she and her husband raised four absolutely remarkable children.

Ms. Burch completed her degree in December 1995, but this was not the end of her education. She has saved companies millions of dollars through her work, but the real highlight of her career has been helping to make life easier for other individuals and working on teams. She has always believed that for every problem, there is a solution.

Looking back, Ms. Burch attributes her success to her persistence and hard work; taught to her by her parents and GOD. She became involved in her profession because of her curiosity regarding electricity, as well as her love of programming, troubleshooting, hands-on and team involvement.

Ms. Burch is now a senior electrical engineer possessing more than 19 years of experience managing diverse and complex projects. She has an exceptional and broad-based analytical and technical acumen with proficiency in designing control systems for commercial and industrial manufacturing. She has also set herself apart as a collaborative team leader who strengthens relationships to create cohesive teams committed to delivering results that improve processes, elevate productivity, and deliver substantial cost savings.

Ms. Burch maintains affiliation with IEEE and NFPA. In recognition of her contributions to education, she has been presented with various honors for tutoring students, teamwork, repairing customer relationships and she was recognized as a Top Female Professional in her field in 2014. In years to come, Ms. Burch intends to pursue a project manager position.
