Nichole Battle Inducted into Worldwide Who’s Who for Excellence in Community Development

BALTIMORE, July 26, 2013, Nichole Doye Battle, Chief Executive Officer of GEDCO, has been recognized by Worldwide Who’s Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in community development.

Recognized for a decade and a half of invaluable contributions to her field, Ms. Doye Battle has found professional success as the chief executive officer of GEDCO. In her capacity as CEO, she implements and develops affordable, market rate and mixed use housing developments using federal and city subsidy programs such as Low Income Housing Tax Credits. In addition, she begins the formation for strategic planning for the next five years and analyzes the organization internally to see what will work for the next year. Ms. Doye Battle also develops solutions to fix any problems that need to be overcome and fundraise for development opportunities.

Prior to joining GEDCO, Ms. Doye Battle previously worked as a developer for Penrose Properties, LLC. In this role, she was responsible for managing a nearly $240 million vertical and land development project. She managed the development of a team of architects, engineers, general contractors and attorneys, leading to the development of 167 affordable and mixed income housing opportunities.

GEDCO, or Govans Ecumenical Development Corporation, provides affordable housing with supportive services and assists in meeting emergency needs of community residents. These services include housing adults with mental disabilities in the Ascension Homes, nurturing women and men who were homeless at the nearby Harford House, Micah House and Shelter Plus Care. GEDCO enables seniors to age with dignity at Epiphany House. In addition to their housing programs, GEDCO operates CARES, or Civic and Religious Emergency Services. CARES responds to more than 5000 visits annually from community members seeking food, advocacy, and emergency financial assistance for utility bills, eviction prevention and prescriptions. Furthermore, this offshoot of GEDCO provides opportunities for locals regarding employment.

Ms. Doye Battle received a Bachelor of Arts in landscape architecture from The Pennsylvania State University in 1991, and a master’s degree in city and regional planning and public policy and management from The Ohio State University in 1995. Dedicated to bettering herself, she went on to pursue an MBA from Loyola University in Maryland, which she earned in 2008. Ms. Doye Battle remains professionally affiliated with the industry by serving on the board of the Arlington Housing Corporation of Baltimore, where she has been a board member since 2007. Within the next five years, she plans to make GEDCO recognizable as a strong housing and community development organization by marketing their strengths and finding new development projects.
