Sheldon Braaten, Ph.D. Named International Man of the Year by the Editorial and Advisory Boards of International Biographical Centre

Dr. Braaten is the executive director of Behavioral Institute for Children and Adolescents

ROSEVILLE, MN, June 4, 2014, Dr. Sheldon Braaten, Executive Director of Behavioral Institute for Children and Adolescents, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in behavioral psychology.

Understanding the importance of a strong educational foundation, Sheldon Braaten achieved a Ph.D. in special education and educational administration from the University of Minnesota, a Master of Arts in special education, and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Augustana College. He also completed certifications in social studies (7-12) and emotionally disturbed behaviors (K-12), as well as supervisor of special education and director of special education. Dr. Braaten has since embarked on a career in psychology and mental health which has spanned the past 32 years.

Currently, Dr. Braaten serves as executive director for the Behavioral Institute for Children and Adolescents. The educational consultancy company provides training and resources for parents, educators and mental and behavioral health care providers who serve children and adolescents nationwide. In his role, he advocates for, designs and evaluates behavioral programs according to the needs of struggling children and youth. Dr. Braaten is extensively knowledgeable in this field and has published research-based information and assessments. His published works focus on behavioral competencies, intervention in schools and clinics, assessment of the behavioral objective sequence, and psychology in schools.

Recognized as a leader in his industry, Dr. Braaten has garnered several awards throughout his illustrious career. He was inducted into Worldwide Branding in 2006, named a Distinguished Professor of Special Education by Ball State University from 1997 through 2006, and inducted into Academic Keys Who's Who in Education. He earned the Frank Wood award from MNCCBD and Minnesota Educators of the Emotionally Disturbed. Dr. Braaten was also named World Intellect of 1993 by the International Biographical Centre and International Man of the Year by the Editorial and Advisory Boards of International Biographical Centre. Most recently, he was named a Professional of the Year and Expert Resource by Worldwide Branding and, was featured in Pro-Files Magazine. Dr. Braaten says his success has been motivated by the desire to help children.

Dr. Braaten is professionally affiliated with the Council for Exceptional Children, Division of the Council, Council for Children with Behavior Disorders, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and Minnesota Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders and past member of  Correctional Education Association, Association for Behavior Analysis International, and Council for Educational Diagnostic Services.

Away from the demands of his work, Dr. Braaten enjoys spending time with his wife, Barbara, and his children, Melissa and John.
