Rita Wilson-Howard Honored for Excellence in Public Relations

Crown Winery LLC received a “Couple’s Choice” award for Top Wedding Venue in the USA

HUMBOLDT, TN, June 11, 2015, Rita Wilson-Howard, President and Co-Owner of Crown Winery LLC, was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Branding. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.

Ms. Wilson-Howard has 10 years of experience as the President and Co-Owner of Crown Winery LLC. As an expert in public relations, she is responsible for managing operations of the winery, as well as showing the facility to clients, organizing tours, and consulting with clients for their upcoming weddings and events. Prior to joining Crown Winery LLC, Ms. Wilson-Howard worked as an actress in television programs and commercials, films and theatrical performances. She was also a public speaker and a competitive baton and pageant coach and judge. Ms. Wilson-Howard is proud to have been inducted into the National Baton Twirling Association Hall of Fame the Miss Tennessee Hall of Fame. She also takes pride in owning the “Best of the Best” Winery in both Humboldt and Jackson, and a WeddingWire.com 2015 “Couple’s Choice” Top Wedding Venue in the USA.

Ms. Wilson-Howard has been fortunate enough to win “National Sweetheart 1959,” “Miss Tennessee 1961” and “Miss Dixie 1962,” as well as several other state and national pageants. She was financially-able through scholarships to attend Ole Miss for two years, and then graduate from Northwestern University with a major in communications with emphasis in theater. The diversity of attending both a state and a private college allowed her to open her eyes to two different and admirable environments.

The travel involved with winning the pageants, in addition to having lived abroad for several years, enhanced Ms. Wilson-Howard’s public speaking, etiquette and interview skills. It also allowed her to experience unique cultures and manifold  citizens of the world. As a result, she can better understand, converse, and appreciate, without prejudice, the heterogeneous differences of individuals in race, religion, sexual orientation and financial situations. Ms. Wilson-Howard is the owner of The Crown Winery that has a retail store and a wine manufacturing unit. The winery holds parties, corporate events, weddings and receptions. They have 23 acres of vines and produce 16 varieties of wine. The retail store features works by local artists, as well as wine-related retail items. Her ability to speak with anyone, anywhere, as well as listen and learn from individuals is what separates her from her peers. Her greatest career achievement has been being able to handle the basic everyday accounting for the business on Quickbooks without an accounting or strong mathematics background.

Looking back, Ms. Wilson-Howard attributes her success to her energy, strong educational background and ability to excel as a public speaker. She also credits her etiquette training, and experience with both competing in and judging various pageants. Having lived abroad for many years has also played a role in her accomplishments. Her knowledge of various wines from other countries has given her strong insight on selling wines. She became involved in her profession after her husband retired from business and they relocated to her hometown of Humboldt, Tennessee. They bought land and decided to establish a vineyard and winery. The highlights of her career were receiving the Jackson Chamber of Commerce Pinnacle Award for the “Outstanding Emerging Business of the year” in 2010 and the “Top Small Business of the Year” from the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce.

Ms. Wilson-Howard received a bachelor's degree in communications, with a concentration in theater, from Northwestern University in 1965. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, Phi Beta Fraternity, Tau Beta Sigma, the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation, the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce and the Humboldt Tennessee Chamber of Commerce. In years to come, Ms. Wilson-Howard hopes to expand her business and spend time with her grandchildren. She would also like to build a theater in the vineyard and bring in big name performers.
