Yvonne Tunney Honored for Her Success as an Entrepreneur

KARUMBA, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA, April 17, 2014, Yvonne Tunney, Tourism Business Owner and Operator of Ash’s Holiday Units and Café, Karumba has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in hospitality.
Ms. Tunney has nine years of experience as a tourism business owner and operator of Ash’s Holiday Units and Café, Karumba. Each day, she is responsible for running the business, as well as organizing staff, including eight full-time and four part-time employees. Ms. Tunney oversees the kitchen area, ensuring that standards of cleanliness and productivity are being adhered to, as well as handling bookings, dealing with clients, banks and financial institutions and planning menus.
Ms. Tunney previously worked for the Australian Federal Government, and she managed a cattle station for 11 years. She was appointed as executive officer for an Australian Federal Government pilot program for three and a half years, responding to the impacts of economic and industry-based hardships. This appointment ended in early 2005.
Looking back, Ms. Tunney attributes her success to her determination to see something through and make it a success. She is always ready for a challenge and learning from her mistakes along the way. She became involved in her profession because she and her husband were looking for something different, and this opportunity came up.
Ms. Tunney received a certificate in hospitality from the Building Rural Leaders Course at Queensland State, and she has also received a trainers certification. She was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding and also maintains affiliation with the Australian Institute of Management, the Gulf Chamber of Commerce, Gulf Savannah Development, and Savannah Way Ltd. In recognition of her tremendous achievements, she was named as a regional recipient of the Community Service Award, as well as a nominee for Citizen of the Year by Council Australia Day. In years to come, Ms. Tunney plans to sell the business and look for a new challenge. She also intends to obtain a business degree.
